Here is another shot from today. I was at a traffic light when I looked over and saw this. Two stores next to each other. The one on the right side of the picture was recently rebuilt/finished. Look at how the stucco guys dealt with this service drop.

Never mind the stucco guys, who supported that neutral like that? I think someone forgot some parts.

Looks like they had to cut a few strands of the neutral to tie it to the wire holder...

That actually was, and still is, an acceptable way to tie in a dead end. Looks like they used a "preform"

what parts do you think are missing?

I've never seen a poco cut the neutral to tie it around a wire holder, they always use service drop grips.

the wire you see going through the knob is a grip, it is coiled so that it coils around the neutral and grips it, I believe it is actually made of steel.

its about all they use around here, if you want a closer look at one, they use basically the same thing only a larger version on the guy wires staked into the ground on the poles.

aka Wedge Clamp.

phone company still uses those around here, I think the power company has changed to the coils because they are probley less expensive and easier to to take apart and re-use.
