I have a two way communication system I’m installing and the 2hour fire rated circuit integrity cable the brand recommends is 2.5k for a 500’’ Roll.

Can I put regular fplp or similar low voltage wire in a two hour fire rated conduit (if such exists) instead?

If this a job specification bid it the way it's designed or you'll be left holding the bag.

This was the one line the engineer sent me but it’s not for this job(the one I’m on is a 3 story). I talked to him about it and he didn’t out the wire in the bid for this reason.

Ca it be encased by a 2-hour enclosure if you don't want to go with a 2-hour wiring method. They're paying for the cable so use whatever was in the spec.

I’ll be more transparent. My boss wants to run regular wire in a two hour enclosed area. Not sure what he’s imagining but my thought was conduit. I’m going to recommend that and let him decide. Does anyone know of conduit that is rated for that? I’ve only used emt, pvc and a few sticks of rigid in my career.

There are no conduits rated for 2 hours. There are 2 hour rated wrap assemblies, or you could have a two hour rated drywall assembly built around the conduits. As I said in my earlier post on this issue, I expect either one of these solutions would have an end cost 2 to 3 time greater than the cost of 2 hour rated cable.

Thank you for your response.

Yeah… I can see how that most options would be comparable in price. I’m just fleshing out each option. The wrap option seems like a possible money saver though depending on how easily it is to install.

My plan would be to sds drill three holes from inside the shaft out to the communication box location on each floor and run wrapped emt straight up hitting a box on each hole. Securing with minis. And stubbing out the back of the box into each elevator lobby.
