Thanks Wayne that is where I got my info, but if you keep poking around the site you can find that they claim listing for NM too.

I have never used them that way but I think Bill is right.

I am still going to read my box at work tomorrow. ;)

That's the way I was taught. It's a pain, though. Not only is it annoying to have to break out the throat without needle-nose pliers, but in my opinion, it's best to reem it or file it to try and smooth down the sharp edges where the throat was attached.

For all of that, just go get a connector that is solely listed for NM.

With regards to work in the Chicago area we mainly deal with AC or FMC. The 3/8ths FMC connectors are required to have the nose peice that is totaly inclosed.

I tried to post a picture, but it came up a box with a red X. Anyhow it's the center connector in iwires post on the first page.

Granted there are probably some other types of connectors that are listed for FMC, other than what we've shown.

The Arlington site mentions:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Listed for MC only.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it does, but for different connectors. The ones being discussed here are the three pictured on page one of this thread and on the following page:

Awwt
The arisk denotes the ones that are only listed for MC only. The rest are listed for For NM ? SE ? MC ? AC cable. For steel and aluminum jacketed cables. Zinc die-cast as it says just under the heading

840
8400
8401
8402

* Listed for MC only
* 8403
* 8404
* 8405
* 8407
Bill there are some that are listed for 3 14/2's
Copied right off there site: 3-14/2 NM
And the BT50 allows 4 14/2's

hurk,

Thanks for pointing that out!
I just glanced at the page and didn't notice anything over 2 cables listed. I think 4 cables is pushing it for a 1/2" connector, although it's good to know.

Here's what the BT50 looks like. I dont think it's usefull on a panel.

I looked at the ones on the job and they are not listed for NM or cord.

But they are also not made by Arlington. :eek:

They look exactly the same as this one by Arlington.

:eek: :D

hurk,

Thanks, those connectors are widely used around here for Resi panels. Probably more common than the other types we've seen in this thread.

One thing in particular I see these used for is when only one side of the ko is accessible, like when a new cable is fished into an existing flush panel and the wall is finished.

How does having these connectors on the inside of a panel sit with the Inspectors out there?

I have never seen them in a panel. Here or any where for that matter but that would be a good use for them or when you fish a cable into a existing KO in a device box (provided there's room). But I do see them when we install a surface mount range/dryer receptacle, they are provided with it by the manufacture. but these have 4 little screws to mount it to the flange inside/outside of the receptacle.

Re: two screw conector can it be used with mc or bx and if n

Recently did a job where I used a whole slew of BT50s: Had to replace a whole bunch of non-grounded receptacles fed by BX in an ancient balloon-frame house. Just opted to fish new circuits and replace the device boxes(old ones badly rusted) and receptacles.

All the receptacles were in these intricate baseboards, I couldn't put any connectors on the sides of the device boxes because then I couldn't get them back in the close-fit holes in the baseboards. I just put one BT50 in the back of each box and brought the pieces of 12-2 into the one connector.

Worked like a charm. Very useful to have around.

They are easy to use, they just slip in the ko (cheaper brands take a little wiggling though).

I think many guys around my area use these the majority of the time for residential Panels.

Something they're really useful for is for taking care of violations where someone brought NM cables into a box or Panelboard through a bare ko (no connector).

Normally the cables would have to be disconnected and pulled out, but with these you just take out the 2 screws and slip the 2 halves in around the cables and put screws back. It can save a lot of time.

Here's a picture of similar connectors being used sent to me by Joe Tedesco:

:) ) Picture is just posted here to give an idea of how these connectors are used for those that have not seen them before.
