I'm wondering if anyone uses AC cable anymore. I don't do much commercial work but I can't say I ever see it being used, or use it myself. Every new installation in my area is 100% MC cable.

I'm also wondering if manufacturers will eventually discontinue making it, as the demand for it must be quite low these days.

Hospital grade AC cable is used in patience care areas of health care facilities for compliance with 517.13 (A).

I think they are coming out with an MC cable that uses the sheath as a ground but have not seen it on the market.

Good point, I completely forgot about HCF. :)
There will always be a demand for that unless this new MC takes off in a major way.

But I don't see plain old AC cable holding on for much longer.

You guys are right we're seeing less and less of the old AC stuff. As a personal preference I still like it better than MC cable. The steel armor is stronger and having to connect only 2 conductors from each cable as opposed to 3 from the MC saves a lot of time.

Yes you have its called HCF. Been around a long time too. :cool:

I see a lot of AC used even in residential around here. Matter of fact my house was built with AC fifty years ago and anything I added or changed is done with AC.

I like MC even better but the cost difference between it and AC is quite a bit. For those situations where you can't use NM and MC is not required, AC is the cost effective alternative. That's why I don't think it will ever go away.

No, they really are introducing an MC product for HCF applications. Now if only I can find that darned link to it.
