Just a side thought. I prefer the Wilshire lift to the Aladdin. It's a little more money, but a better product and easier to install.

I always thought the Aladdin was real easy to install so I would love to see the Wilshire... I have probably done 6 aladdin's myself... the worst of course is doing the install after the fact...nothing like taking a huge fixture down by ladder or staging just remove the staging and rehang the light...

I have done a number of the Alladin lifts, and I would sure like to hear more about any falures, Allenwayne

Likewise, and how much money was awarded after the lawsuit... To be fair, I would like more info on what exactly failed in the kits... was it the fixture hardware or bad install or was it a actual part of the alladin kit?

Its been a while since anybody posted here but as the OP I was wondering where online I could find fixture stud(crowsfoot), extensioin stud, or hickey. I got the chand. installed but I was looking for these items to keep instock. I have searched the web and asked suppliers and I am having no luck. Thanks for past and future info.

Also, you need to do more old work and save parts you remove.

You know you're really doing old work when the fixture you're taking down is hanging from the old gas pipe poking through the center KO, and not the box itself.

Sorry, haven't checked in on this thread recently. I've installed a few aladdin's. There's no "problem" installing them, I just find the Wilshire's easier. And they move like 3 times the speed of the alladin. But they do cost more. The best feature is that you adjust the stop limit by adjusting a limit switch at the unit by manually turning the pulley. You can sort of pull it up tight to the ceiling. And the box drops down with the fixture, so you don't have to adjust the height of the lift as you do with the alladin. With the Alladin, you need the 2 plates to come in contact with each other. Honestly it's been over a year since I did either one, so some details are a little fuzzy.

Here's a link showing the assembly instructions if it helps illustrate what I'm trying to say.

Actually i have seen 2 failures over the past several years all the 750 lb. class Alladin light lift. The failure fortunately occurred in non occupied homes at the time.

The failure was not in the install but the connection cable to the box, both did the same thing. The cable separated from the little wedge/conical shaped piece that guides the contact plate to the box. One fixture was a huge crystal chandelier and the other was only about 125 lbs so it was not the weight I assume.

All that holds these fixtures besides the thin safety wire is a Small piece of what I will call.Pot metal, I don`t recommend these anymore after these situations.Thank goodness nobody was hurt but think if there was !!!!!!!
