Not that I would ever do it, but as I read it in Article 340, UF cable can be used as NM cable. Reason I researched this is that somewhere on a site, it was said that UF cable absolutely could not be used in as NM. I think somebody's wrong. Of course it says it must be of the Multiconductor type for whatever reason. Just an observance.

Yes UF can be used as NM. 12/2 UF is multiconductor. They do make a single conductor UF

Type UF cable shall be permitted as
follows:
Installed as nonmetallic-sheathed cable. Where so installed,
the installation and conductor requirements shall
comply with Parts II and III of Article 334 and shall be of
the multiconductor type.

In Wv if your buying 25-75ft you can save quite a bit on UF rather than NM.

If it’s coming out of my pocket I don’t mind stripping it out that much to save money lol.

UF is a pain to strip, but the Klein NM stripper works surprisingly well.

The newer UF is much easier than the old UF was for stipping purposes. My NM stripper does a nice job on the new UF, but on the older UF, all bets off. Definitely PIB.

Wow, around here UF, even when buying bulk, is about 25% higher than NM.
Not sure of UF being cheaper than NM in your area but did pull up at HD in W. Virginia, and the UF and NM was the same price. Interesting.

They may be pricing it on' availability'. I know I've used MC cable a couple times this year when I could've used NM. Because MC was cheaper. The customers thought I was doing an extra good job. ;)
I didn't have to pay for connectors. I have several cases of MC Cable connectors in the shop I bought at an auction, cheap.

Or even pricing on "old stock" that was purchased at lower cost than it would be now.

I hate to see the NM Duo on the market. There is no telling what those 16ga conductors will be used for by folks unfamiliar with the purpose :)
