I have an existing outside installation with UF 14/2 cable stapled to a pressure treated trellis over a walkway. I need to move the lights that these wires feed. Besides being ugly or the staples rusting is it permissible to simply extend the run with uf? Thx guys

There is no reason that you cannot extend the UF cable. It is rated for wet or dry conditions providing you take all the precautions to protect it from damage.

One could say the staples are not listed for outdoor use so you might choose to use one hole straps.

I just took down a piece of 10/2UF used as an aerial feed to barn with no guy wire. It had been up for at least 25 years in bright sun, etc and I was amazed that the cable looked unscathed.

As long as it isn't subject to physical damage, and if exposed to direct sunlight it is identified as sunlight resistant, then it would be OK.

Take a look at 340.10 and 340.12.
