URD (underground residential distribution) is just a type of USE cable that has 3 or 4 conductors twisted together.

Some URD is dual listed as USE but a lot of it is not and strictly speaking can not be used for NEC applications unless it has the USE marking on it.

I think it is mainly used by POCO's since they are not under the NEC, though the supply houses around here sell it too.
