Ran into new request today. Was told i must cover my clamps with liquidnails or silicon.Anyone else ran into this ?
The engineer was there and thats what he wants.2 clamps 4 feet apart.Says its because of 2 disimalar metals.I reminded him that its steel to brass and brass to copper. Its done and over with and the concrete is drying as i type.My thinking is if its in concrete it gets no air so nothing happens.raider1 said:Did you ask for a code reference? I have never heard of this, sounds a little suspect to me.

raider1 said:The clamp used to connect the grounding electrode conductor to the re-bar must be listed for use with re-bar. Therefore I can't see a problem with "2 disimalar metals".
The problem becomes that this is an engineers requirment and it must still be met. I typically see engineers require a 3/0 wire used in the footing for a UFFER ground, even though the NEC only requires a #4 for a UFFER ground.

Allen, that's not what exfoliation means.allenwayne said:Exfoliation ,the chemical reaction to 2 disimular metals

I'm not quite sure this morning what the right term is, but the NEC calls it "corrosion by galvanic action" I think, in 300.2x.
Thanks for the quick reply.raider1 said:UFFER or UFER is a trade term for a concrete encased electrode. Take a look at 250.52(A)(3). The term UFFER comes from the engineer that did the research on concrete encased electrodes.

Didn't mean to embarrass you, I always feel my silliest when I use the wrong word - and it's always a big one.allenwayne said:You are correct it is galvanic corrosion,I humble and bow to George
