I am installing gas sensors in a C1D2 room. The associated power supply is located outside the room and is UL 1604 rated. Does this mean the power circuit is nonincendive? If it is I'm planning on running the circuit in EMT, placing seal off's as required when crossing the classification boundary, do I need to use seal off''s before the sensors? Some UL info: http://ulstandardsinfonet.ul.com/scopes/1604.html

Not necessarily. Your power supply must specifically identify itself as “Nonincendive” and qualified under ANSI/ISA-12.12.01, ‘‘Nonincendive Electrical Equipment for Use in Class I and II, Division 2 and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2 Hazardous (Classified) Locations,’’ While UL 1604 is the Standard that ANSI/ISA-12.12.01 devices are listed under, it also covers hermetically sealed and sealed components; nonsparking equipment; and dust-tight enclosures. In addition, the sensors would also need to be nonincendive rated and the entire system installed in accordance with a manufacturer’s control drawing. See 501.10(B)(3).

Assuming it is ultimately nonincendive qualified, only a "non-explosionproof" (whatever that means) boundary seal is necessary.
