UL 83 and Voltage Rating of Conductors

Per UL 83, conductors are marked "the maximum voltage for which the wire or cable is rated". That being said, does "maximum" mean maximum or nominal maximum?

I am working on a older, unique 600V system and there has been some concern with utility voltage fluctuations producing a voltage slightly greater than 600V at times. Can I use 600V rated conductors?

I have confirmed with the equipment manufacturer that the equipment ratings are nominal.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

That is a good question and personally I doubt the difference would matter however if the max voltage is 600v and you go over then IMO it is not compliant. I would be interested to know what the manufacturer's say. My bet is 600v is 600V
