UL listing

Is there a code section that requires equipment to be UL listed? Or is that an inspector thing?

Several sections of the NEC require a specific product to be listed. In general, Section 110.2 gives the AHJ authority to require listed products as a component of determining compliance and approval.

I don't think that UL is referenced anywhere in the NEC. Section 110.2 allows the AHJ to approve equipment. Most inspectors will use third party listing which can be many different groups. ( UL, FM, ETL etc.)
