110.3 approved.

Having a piece if equipment that is labeled SA and also has a C and US by the SA.

There is no UL on the equipment that I can see.

Is SA considered as listed and approved for install per 110.3?

Or does it have to be UL listed. If It has to be UL, where does it say that?

Thank you

I do not believe your range hood is directly required by the NEC to be listed

But all equipment is subject to approval by the AHJ. See article 100 for definition but basically it means acceptable to the AHJ.

I believe so too :- )

Is SA an approved listing??

With AHJ blessing.

Or even not as he'll probably just walk the job and give a sticker.

Would I be in compliance installing a non UL listed piece of equipment that does have a different listing?

I don't believe anything will happen. But things happen. If something happened I would want to have any finger pointers saying it's not UL.

With the SA, would you put it in with complete confidence in that decision ??

Thank you.

It is not "SA". It is "CSA"...Canadian Standards Association. CSA is a "NRTL" (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory). The small "US" indicates it was tested to a US standard. The C indicates it was tested to a Canadian standard.

Thank you. Yes. The wrap around C.

The mark indicates CSA listing to (probably) UL standards. note the "C" surrounding the "SA".

UL and CSA are virtually the same, but not identical. So since there are a few minor differences in needs or testing, when you want more 'universal" acceptance of your product you can expand your UL listing to be cUL, or expand your CSA listing to be CSAus, which means, either way, your product will be accepted anywhere in North America (Mexico uses UL as well, but accepts CSA too).
