Re: Under-chassis wiring ?
The NEC is not the only set of codes we must follow.
while the NEC leaves little leeway with this the Hud code allows a judgment call to be made.
2002 NEC
550.15 Wiring Methods and Materials.
(H) Under-Chassis Wiring (Exposed to Weather). Where outdoor or under-chassis line-voltage (120 volts, nominal, or higher) wiring is exposed to moisture or physical damage, it shall be protected by rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit. The conductors shall be suitable for wet locations.
Exception: Electrical metallic tubing or rigid nonmetallic conduit shall be permitted where closely routed against frames and equipment enclosures.
Part 3280, Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development
3280.801
Scope.
(b) In addition to the requirements of this standard and Article 550
of the National Electrical Code (NFPA No. 70-1993) the applicable
portions of other Articles of the National Electrical Code shall be
followed covering electrical installations in manufactured homes.
Wherever the requirements of this standard differ from the National Electrical Code, this standard shall apply.
3280.808
Wiring methods and materials.
(k)
When outdoor or under-chassis line-voltage wiring is exposed to moisture or physical damage, , it shall be protected by rigid metal
conduit. The conductors shall be suitable for wet locations. Electrical
metallic tubing may be used when closely routed against frames, and
equipment enclosures.
It's interesting to see how much differance there is between the two.
