Under Exhaust Hood Lighting Fixture Requirements

What are the requirements for light fixtures located in or beneath an exhaust hood that is located above a range in a commercial kitchen?

Just read that section. Doesn't mention being disconnected by the Ansul system. Would a light that isn't part of the hood have to be shutdown like other equipment under the hood in case of a fire?

The fire marshall did not require that with us but everything else is..Now brings me to a question regarding the equipment connected to the ansul system did you find one premade to handel the load on the disconnect or did you build one your self??

If the light is not part of the hood, is it under the hood?
If yes, then "yes"..part of the required shutdown.
If no, then it can stay on for all eternity...or until it needs relamping

Ansul stuff is fun. I want to do one so bad! cschmid, I'm sure others here have a lot more experience with them but I suspect that it just supplies a set of dry contacts and you have to design the contactor/shutdown setup or shuntrip or? I'm interested in hearing more on this from the experienced members.

I used a 12 pole (+/- poles..I forget exactly ) lighting contactor to to shunt trip CB's....should be having the FD check/inspect it by month's end .

No.

The equipment that must be shutdown is the equipment that might be supplying heat to the fire.

that is what I was told by fire marshall..See I had to build mine and I did not use shunt trip breakers as my was a retrofit job..we needed to add a power supply to maintain the voltage so the kitchen could function during power outages (run their gas stoves)yet have the ansul system drop out everything when it is activated..so I created the our system..that is why I was curious..
