Underground communications

Gentlemen I am currently inspecting a large construction project involving the use of plumbing PVC for use as the communications raceway. They have installed plumbers T's as well as street 90's, I have already cited them for improper depth as per Table 830.47 and would really like to see this conduit run changed or sewer placed in it rather than communications. Does anyone have a true code reference forbidding this application? I am sure it exists and I am just reading around it HELP.

Are you sure 830 applies and not 800?

Check 830.1 and the FPN following it.

I see what you are saying however I located nothing in this section either that specified the requirements for Communications ran underground and the schedule PVC to be used. I mentioned it to the contractor and got the same "We are in Iraq we use what we can" not acceptable. I have seen references that give almost enough rope to tie it up.

That is correct, there are no requirements for depth or the type of conduit used.

Keep in mind the NEC is a safety code and there is no direct danger in digging up circuits covered by Article 800.

Article 830 is about communication lines that also contain power conductors so the rules are more strict.
