Underground service entrance conductors

2005 Code - Is it legal to run parallel runs of 500MCM/USE cables in the same trench without installing same in conduit??
I couldn't find anything in the code saying no but am wondering if I missed something.

If your saying all the runs will be direct buried. Then yes providing all other codes are met IE burial depth etc.

Was hoping that was the case - saves alittle bit on conduit and the trouble of trying to coordinate with the POCO.

I prefer conduit because excavators are always digging up stuff. Conduit gets broken but the conductors usually make it. Make sure you use a red tape 12 inches over the conductors to warn people that there are live wires down there.

Thanks - already have the tape as I use it when using conduit also, just for added safety.

Yes, you can install them in the same trench, but if you do the derating factors in Table 310.15(B)(2)(a) apply.
