What does dottering mean? Webster doesn't have a definition. Dotter is defined as, "to mark with a dot" or "to intersperse with dots or objects scattered at random."

Hmmm...Wonder what a dottering old feller is then?

the word "dote" means to be feeble minded. variant uses, like "dotty"(sounds like doughty) are the norm, rather than the "correct" usage. The variants would have become actual words if the phrase hadn't gone out of style. it takes several years of slang usage to become a word defined in the dictionary.
