Gotta love HD

Gotta love HD

I was HD a few month ago and asked the electrical guy if he had a CH 2p100 BR and went to the aisle where I already looked and said "nope, but here use a siemens it will fit." "I said your retard that breaker is not rated my enclosure, now get on the computer and find me a store that has what I need." He said, " Well if I don't have one I don;t know the part number." I said, "ok moron if the part number for 2p125 is CH2125 don't you think the part number for a 100 would be CH2100." Need less to say I had to get the manager to find me one at a nearby store and informed his associate was an idiot. But there are some good guys but they are very very very rare.

quogueelectric, I believe you are correct, I think the spool is labeled as 12-2-2 and not 12/4 as I stated. That's a black a red and two whites. I'll send you a pm tonight about the pricing, it would be less than 12/3 I guarantee you, 12/3 being $290 I think for a 1000'. Sorry, I don't know Eric Stromer, I've only been in Bergen county for a year and a half.

pbeasley, I see that different markets get different items as we only stock up to 5/8" mudrings. Sometimes there is little to no obvious logic in some of the things that go on behind the scenes. It could be that the orderer messed up or the item isn't "Active" meaning someone above the orderer doesn't feel the item should be on the shelf, this happens often. Speaking of ordering mistakes, we received a pallet of 12/3 uf 250' months ago, why? Those will be collecting dust for years to come.

Celtic, sorry bro, if only I had known I would have given you a hand, either that or I'd have gotten the lot kid to do it :) Which Depot do you visit?

SmithBuilt, yeah that's odd, he needs to get edumacated, I've never heard of that even as a rumor. That kinda reminds me of another story, a contractor, not too long ago, told me he's starting a motion to get rid of SE, he wants it to be outlawed because a kid somewhere pierced the sheathing with the handlebars on his bicycle and got electrocuted. I questioned the validity of this but he assured me it happened.

Aledrell, ha ha, you sound like a buddy of mine.

I would have told you where to go if I'd been the home depot guy. This is like shopping at a Walmart for groceries and asking the meat guy to give you a special cut. Goto your supply house if you need parts ordering or something out of the ordinary.

I personally avoid HD like the plague for material on the job. Sometimes they're a little cheaper on Klein tools and so forth, but the whole overhearing bad advice and going in for 4 things and them not having 2 or 3 does seem to run pretty rampant.

Celtic,
Which Depot do you visit?

Too many of them :D

Anything along the Rt. 78/22 corridor out as West far as Watchung/Bridgewater...as far East as the Holland tunnel

Anything along 9 from as far South as Jackson....jumping over to Rt.17 as far North as Paramus.

Sometimes even hitting Staten Island.

It all depends where I am and what I need.

Yesterday, I was in Secaucus....today, maybe Jersey City.

Mark, I feel for you. There are so many HD associates putting out bad info that the good guys have a rough time. I fill out the customer feedback surveys a lot and praise the good ones by name , all the time.

I've even had long phone conversations with the HD HQ, in Atlanta about not stocking items required by the 08 Code. It's helped but they still have a long way to go. Makes no sense having only half of what we need and sending everybody to Big Blue or a wholesale house.

Me: No you can't, if you stick a BR40 in this housing look how much it will stick out
RE: Just loosen up this wing nut and push this bracket up (He demonstrates this)
Me: You can't bypass that tit, it's an IC housing dude, not to mention this is an unlisted trim, an inspector probably wouldn't let that fly
RE: AH, an inspector only cares if it's grounded. (He then quizzes the cust if he grounded the housing)

thats the only was i install recessed can lights i use juno rather then halo, but because if i dont slide the bracket over the tit the bulb looks like it is just hanging in the can, sliding the bracket all the way up makes the entire can look better by recessing the bulb inside it

I get a kick out of reading the posts about the supply guys giving advice and the electricians standing by listening to bogus advice. I get a first hand look at the given advice in the field. I can't list all the times that I've written violations about electrical materials sold by the supply guys to homeowners. Many times when I cite a violation the homeowner questions me saying they were told how to install the material by the supply guys and how could they be allowed to sell the wrong material.

Sometimes when I am supply house a homeowner will ask me how to do something and my stock reply is if you dont know hire a pro

Now I don't know where your from but CH 2p100 is a standard stock HD item where I am from. If your are a service electrician you know that almost all the apartment meter banks have a 2p100 breaker and they are in high demand and it seems I replace two a week. Although on this emergency call in the "evening" when my parts house was not open HD was a practical choice. Also let me further set the tone that the store was dead, cricket chirping dead, my request for a computer inventory check was not absurd the computer is in the aisle an takes 30 seconds. Not to mention with the amount of money my company spends with HD each month on our revolving account I come to expect a little better service there than the average Joe.

Here's a good one;

I was doing a pool install a week or so ago and needed a breaker for a murray panel. Lowe's was two blocks away so I went there.

the guy working the electrical isle used to work the counter at one of the supply houses in this town.

i asked him if he remembered which breakers were listed for murray panels (the one with the big red main!).

he said, "i don't know, but homeline's will fit it".

i told him i'd prefer to use what's actually listed for it, and also the electrical inspector in that town hates my guts and i have to be extra sharp when i work there (like i'm ever not extra sharp ;) )

he said, "nah they won't ever catch. buy the homeline".

anyway, i sat there a few minutes thinking and finally remembered it was the siemens breaker i needed.
