Was on a job today standard branch circuit receptacles ground up, IG's ground down. DIFFERENT.
That makes at least a little bit of sense... for ready identification of special receptacles. Some guys will flip the switched receptacle in a room, for that same reason.brian john said:Was on a job today standard branch circuit receptacles ground up, IG's ground down. DIFFERENT.

"Hey bob, why is that receptacle installed upside down"? "Got me, been like that since I bought the place" Bwaaaahhhh.....

Not sure how many service calls I refused to go to by saying,480sparky said:What? Flipping the switched outlet? It sure makes it easier to find and/or identify.... all you need to do is look at it. No pulling it out of the wall, no tester, no going to try turning a switch on.
Half the time you "OHHhhhhh! Thats what that switch is for...." in the backround.... Some people have told me they lived in the house for 20 years, and never had a clue...Look it may not be worth my time to drive there, and you'll be really ticked if I go there and find this - does that outlet that does not work look like it is upside down in comparison to the others? Is there a switch by the door that you never knew what it did?
