Why do we choose a DCDB or an UPS for emergency power supply in a substation. is there any specific difference between the two other than the circuits. like for say one partiucular voltyage the size and efficiency differ?

a bit confused on this one kindly throw some light on it.
thanx.

Re: UPS and Battery Charger

Uniteruptable power is needed by the SCADA, relay control, and other communications equipment inside the sub-staion in the event of a black-out. Otherwise operators loose control and visibility of the site.

thanx dereckbc. that was usefull info.
actually what i have seen is someplaces we have used DC as the source & other places AC.
what i wouyld like to know is why do we choose AC or DC?
does it depend on the system requirement or just basically client requirement?
