We are currently installing a small ups system at a local business. We have 240v to line side of ups and 240v output and would like to install an isolation transformer on the load side to feed a small 120/240 panel for a few critical circuits. There is some debate as to if this is ok.(amongst the office)can anyone tell why we shouldn't configure it this way.

As long as there is adequate OCPDs, there is no problem adding a transformer on the load side of the UPS.

It is odd that there is a relatively small UPS that is 240V single phase, 2 wire (2 hots). They are usually 3 wire ( 2 hots and a neutral) in and out.

It will be a separately derived system. do your bonding and grounding.
