Uses for megger

Hi guys. I have question on using a megger. We use to check the condition of the insulation on conductors, when I was working in the glass plant and that is all I remember doing we a megger. And then I just put the test leads where my boss told me. But I would like to learn how and what all I can do with a megger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks just what I was looking for. I have a AVO megger and " a stich in time " is just what I need. Boy that was fast response, thanks.
