Using Motor Terminal Insulated Boots

We haven't taped motor leads in almost 20 years. We use Raychem heat shrink kits but there a lot of good products out there.

I've been using the T&B Motor Stub boots for 20 years, they work great. If you compare the cost of the boot to a split bolt, insulation putty and 33, the boot is cheaper, better and faster. With the boot it works best to use SS hardware, and a little copper sheild or penatrox e.
I once had to reterminate leads to a 100 hp fire pump that were made up with split bolts and tape. The tape had oozed down into the leads and was a mess.

The use of split bolts for motors must be a regional thing. I have never used one or even seen one used for motor connections.

Its pretty common out here. Split bolt, insulation putty and 33. Its ok if you put 33 on first with the sticky side up.

Sometimes I see cambric tape and 33 and this is the way the naval ship yard locally does it, so perhaps thats why we see so much of it.

Ours would be crimp terminals, screws or bolts, 130C rubber followed by 33+. Sometimes cambric between the lugs and the 130C.
