Using plug and receptacle ad ac disconnect

I am installing a mini split ac unit. 12000 btu, 5 running amps.Can I have the electrician install a 220 bolt receptacle so I can plug it in and use that as my did comnect? I can't find anything that says no in my 2011 code book. Thanks.
