Is it permissable to use the side screw pressure connectors on a typical 5-20 duplex receptacle as a splice point, using stranded copper #12 wire.

Can't you make up your mind?
:D
LOL

I was putting in some devices at a job today....commercial...MWBC....lets just say I remembered 300.13(B) just before they were installed:)

I am not sure what you are calling a spice If you are feeding 2cond.cable with a gec. into a listed receptacle, then out again I think you are ok.

You might want to read 300.13(B) ...think pigtailed ~ allowed or not ~ when and where.

Why do you automatically assume this is a mwbc???

The answer would have to be yes based on the question that was asked. But of course it could also be no. I 've been practicing my Rogerisms.

I assumed nothing:

You may have inferred this...or is it implied? :D

Jim, by using the term "pressure connectors" it is probable that we are talking about commercial grade or spec grade receptacles.
