Using Table B

This is a rather odd question but I am installing MC feeder cables was hoping to use Table B.310.8 Even if I get the EE to approve that it looks like the terminations would still have to follow 310.16. What is the point in Table B at all if you can't terminate those cables in any equipment because that termination would have to be sized off 310.16? It would be a 480 volt installation if that changes anything.

Why? If you have 75 degree-rated terminations, and if you use the tabulated ampacity for a 75 degree insulation system, you are good to go. 110.14(C) says nothing about having to get the conductor's ampacity from Table 310.16.

Also, if you use the table without any changes (i.e., you aren't looking to improve the situation by using a more favorable RHO or Load Factor or something), then I don't think you need an EE to approve the conductor size you select from the table.
 
they will be buried in snow. Sounds strange but it is in an ice field. I was looking at the Handbook and it said you still have to follow 310.16 for the terminations based on what 110.14C says.
 
it's the 05 Handbook. I am looking at the first blue section in Annex B section B.310.15(B)(1) I can quote the section I'm referring to if it helps.
I'm glad others seem to be confused on this too.
 
I do not know the answer to your question but I can show an example of a way around termination temperature ratings.

Thanks for that guys. FYI, the engineer said he is planning on using 310.16 for sizing because he said it would be too expensive to get the equipment with 90 degree terminations. Your drawing may work better seeing as how we already use exterior tap boxes on one end of the feeders with 90 degree connections.
