I have an existing wireway that a project manager would like to use to feed and support a security type camera. I am not overly fond of the idea of using the wireway as a support but I can't find anything in the code to prevent the install. If it was a raceway I could use 300.11(B). Is there anythig else that would apply?

Raceway. An enclosed channel of metal or nonmetallic materials designed expressly for holding wires, cables, or busbars, with additional functions as permitted in this Code. Raceways include, but are not limited to, rigid metal conduit, rigid nonmetallic conduit, intermediate metal conduit, liquidtight flexible conduit, flexible metallic tubing, flexible metal conduit, electrical nonmetallic tubing, electrical metallic tubing, underfloor raceways, cellular concrete floor raceways, cellular metal floor raceways, surface raceways, wireways, and busways.

Thanks Don. I don't use a lot of wireway and for some reason I assumed they were considered something other then a raceway. That's what I needed.

(B) Raceways Used as Means of Support. Raceways
shall be used only as a means of support for other raceways,
cables, or nonelectric equipment under any of the
following conditions:
(1) Where the raceway or means of support is identified for
the purpose
It only restricts using the raceway to support raceways, cables, and non-electric equipment, and a camera of this type is none of these.

The way I read that is you can only use raceways to support other raceways, cables, and non-electric equipment and only if conditions 1, 2, or 3 apply. None of those conditions apply so I can't mount the camera to the wireway. Am I missing something?

Read carefully.

It may be intended to mean what you are saying, but what it actually says is something different.

It says raceways can only be used to support other raceways, cables, and non-electric equipment under certain conditions. It does not restrict supporting other things that are not mentioned.
