Utility Pad Mount Transformers

Greetings,

I was wondering when utility has to put a pad mount transformer in the property to provide power for the building, what type of a pad mount transformer would that be. Is it a dry type transformer or oil filled, is it low flammable or regular?

All the utilities I have worked for or with, all padmount transformers outside are oil filled. I rarely see any of the newer fluids, most are all regular mineral oil filled. I think by the time life cycle cost analysis are done prior to purchasing, the cost of FR3 can't be really justified.
The transformers usually have some spill containment also.

I have only ever seen oil filled pad mounts, usually mineral oil. Smaller transformers usually go on a fiberglass pad. For larger units, sometimes you have to pour your own pad (sometimes with oil containment provisions), and some utilities will supply and set a precast concrete pad.

Mineral oil filled. Other options can be ordered if paid for by the customer since they tend to be non-stock items (don't forget the spare).

Alternatively, the customer could meet the utility at the edge of the property with their own lines. Can get expensive equipment and loss wise.

Had a customer send over a new requirement from corporate for no oil-filled equipment on the property. After getting the quote for alternative units they wanted, corporate decided they could make an exception and leave the oil-filled units on site.
