A fellow electrician has portable generator used with a MTS, its at a remote location and picks up the entire dwelling unit. He has a light that will turn on when the utility power returns, but does not always see the light.
He would like some type of audible alert, the obvious is a horn and 30 second timer.
What would be the options for audible alarm in the house, such as wireless or X-10?

Needless to say an ATS would solve the problem, but in answer to the question....

Hows this, and I figure your buddy can figure this out. 24V transformer powering a relay from the generator side of the MTS. Then a second transformer set up on the utility side. Arrange the contacts of the relay so that while the generator is on, it closes the contacts on the other transformer wiring - in turn sounding a 10" fire bell loud enough to hear in his living room.... He'll want to turm the generator off to get rid of the ringing in his ears - thus opening the contacts to the bell powered by the utility - get it?????

The bell will only be on when both sources of power are available - of course everyone in the neighborhood will also know the power is back on - and that he needs to shut his generator off..... If the remote location is really remote - an air raid siren may do.....
