I found a Gates tester for about $24. In town. I’ve spent more in my youth at ‘The Ballet’. We will see.

Does this his mean I will have more experience than you? Wow, mind boggling!:huh:

My helps fingers must not be calibrated. Bearings on a 60 HP didnt last 5 months and the inner belt of the eight was significantly tighter than the outer. According to my calibrated finger. Discussion if customers vs my help was responsible is not worth the trouble. I can owe them one after 37years

Isn't that why you get belts in matched sets? I'm having trouble imagining the lashup that tensions each of eight belts individually.

Inside and outside as in you can adjust the shaft angle as well as position?

Yes, that was my theory but the tension tester is not high tech enough for that. At least I don’t think so, haven’t used it yet. Just read the directions.

i usually have good luck with a straight edge across the face of the sheaves. My guys know how and did use one.

The belts were new at the time of instal and would have loosened up in the first day. That combined with a sheave needing replaced years ago leads me to believe the tension was readjusted at a later time.

Gar, as always, finds and shares good information. The digital fish scale I have hanging in my shop would have worked.

gates makes the kriket, at the bottom of the scale to an
iphone app that listens to the belt, to a ring tailed doozey
at $700..... that also listens to the belt. i'd get the kriket
style... as long as the sheaves are parallell and inline, and
you put on a full set of matched belts, i wouldn't think
anything more than your calibrated finger would be necessary.
