Have any of you heard of a drive that takes a single phase input and has a 3 phase output. It seems to me I have seen such a beast. Not sure who made it.

Anybody?

Thanks,

Mike

Most smaller drives seem to have this capability.

Many larger drives can do this with suitable derating; most all of these drives work by rectifying the supply AC to provide a capacitor smoothed DC bus, and then use transistor switching to produce the output AC. With a single phase input you put more strain on the connected rectifiers, and put more ripple on the bus. But with suitable limits many drives can handle this.
