For those of you who have done work in C1D2 garages with floor area ventilation and Pit area ventilation systems, who installed the ventilation systems? Electricans or HVAC guys? My client is wanting me to do this but I am having trouble determining the size of pipe needed to meet my CFM flow to the pit. My ventilation system needs to be buried in the sub ground and ran through the pit wall below the 12" requirement. I was hoping to use a thin wall pipe to go through the pit wall then route it over to an exterior wall. does anyone have an assistance or advice with helping me determine pipe size and a recommended exhaust fan for this type of installation?

thanks in advance

For the Sake of Arguement; I say the client is trying to go on the cheap and not have this engineered. That being said, I don't beleive you need the liability of engineering this little job! JMSLO... It's the cost of doing business that the client is avoiding.

Besides depending on where you are in this great country this type of installation may need a seal; IE your breaking ground, playing with the foundation, your work is really only like 10% of what this total job is. The point is why do you have to engineer it?

What you need to have done is a "change of air calculation" for the pit, and have a "make up air calculated", the first effects the existing air system (whatever it is) in respects to the second calculation. Thus it could get easily into a new HVAC system requirements... Don't hold me to this statement! But you will hear these terms!

Take it to an EE or an EE that also does ME work or a ME, either one can put it together for you.
