I've always wanted one of these, not just for electrical work, but also for going into the attic in the winter to see where I need to address insulation or find where I need to put some fire block expanding foam. Or a lot of other applications.
Anyone have any recommendations?

This is Fluke VT04 picture I stole from DuckDuckGo.

In a related story...

Water was coming into the house every time we got a heavy rain and for the longest time I could not find where it was getting in, but when the Snowpocalypse hit Austin and my roof was covered with snow I spotted an area on my roof about a foot in diameter where the snow had melted. That was where the leak was.

I bet you can get a app for your phone...
You would need to find a phone camera that did not have a deliberate or incidental IR rejection filter and whose color imaging chip had an IR sensitive red channel. Then put in an external visible light rejection filter and use the app software to do false color processing.

FLIR sucks had two of them, pieces of crap. Both broke within 6 months. I did take good care of them but FLIR as a general company sucks their cheap and terrible customer service. Return it.

I have a point and click gun too. It's a model SR9 but it's not good at measuring temperature, only cooling things down.

I found this FLIR that looks pretty neat.

FLIR for Android
It does look nice. Note that the entire camera mechanism for IR sensing is an add-on to the phone, bypassing the phone's camera entirely. The phone's processor and screen probably let the resulting imaging system be less expensive than a self-contained FLIR.
