Voltage regulating transformer above suspended ceiling

I believe you can put an ordinary dry type transformer above a suspended ceiling providing you have a smoke detector up there. I'm currently being asked to put an Eaton EVR type voltage regulating transformer above a ceiling. This has two breakers on it, SCR's tap changing, etc and it's against my better judgement to hide it above a ceiling.

My question for you, is, is there any code restriction which I can site to avoid doing this?

The restriction is on the size, and I think it 50 kva,,,,but I'm gonna check

yeah,,provided you meet 450.9and 450.21 (a) 50 kva and below are ok in hollow spaces above dropped ceiling

also Idon't know of any requirement of there having to be a smoke detector up there.
