Good Question!!

Good Question!!

What is considered high voltage

I use to wonder that myself.....that answer can vary, depending on who you are talking to. My opinion is....

Low Voltage= Less than 120 Volts Nominal
Medium Voltage=600 Volts or less, but greater than 120 Volts
High Voltage= Greater than 600 Volts

By the way, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!

What is considered high voltage

Well just a thought low/ voltage is below 600volts med/ voltage to me is above 600 volts like 4160v up to 27kv now high /voltage to me is like 69 kv 345kv or higher But thats just my thinking take care lets here it from the experts ?

I believe this is from the IEE standards:

LV = Voltage levels that are less than or equal to 1 kV

MV = Voltage levels that are greater than 1 kV, but less than or equal to 69 kV

HV = Voltage levels that are greater than 69 kV, but less than or equal to 230 kV

EHV = Voltage levels that are greater than 230 kV, but less than or equal to 800 kV

UHV = Voltage levels that are greater than 800 kV

It is IEEE though, but more importantly it is adopted as an ANSI Standard and as such is the nationally recognized definition.

Sorry, I left an E off and reversed the order, I don't believe EEI has any standards. There is a BIG difference between those two organizations.

EEI - Edison Electric Institute
IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
