Turn off the main breaker first, otherwise you will be seriously with the voltage on the 120V loads if you pull out the neutral service conductor.

That was kind of my point….
The homeowner will be quite pleased to have to reset all their clocks when he’s done.

No home owners inspection? Those HI are famous for opening panels and finding "double taps".
I don't expect much from inspectors. When we had an inspection done on the last place we bought, the report called the generator inlet outside an "illegal male receptacle". Did he not see the switchover panel sitting next to the main panel? Where did he think the Generator side got its power?

So if he tugs a neutral and it comes out, ...

Hoo boy - and suppose that neutral was part of a MWBC. Then, depending on the loads on either of the legs, you get a voltage split of 160/80!!

Where I worked last at a small engineering company, we used to play a "game" when we were getting ready to do something serious, especially fitting / assembling / moving something large. It was called "What could possibly go wrong" - and you were encouraged, within reason, to think through what everybody was about to do and spitball how things could go sideways, and how to be ready for and react to legitimate failure modes.

So when a young intern might suggest to "Lift up the Feeder with the forklift because I think I could slide under there real fast to drill and tap the bracket for an M8", 2 or 3 people would immediately say to him, in unison... "OK, what could possibly go wrong"!!

And when a HI might want to start tugging on wires in a hot panel... I think I'd be inclined to say "OK... What could possibly go wrong"??

So if he tugs a neutral and it comes out, he causes a circuit that used to work go dead, maybe even gets shocked if the circuit has a load on it. Then what?

We’ve debated previously whether an HI should even be removing covers from live panels, do we think he should be grabbing wires?

Just playing devil’s advocate.

I think people just want to know their hard earned money is being put to use
