Walk-in closet

To expand on Bryan's post, there are some homes with bedrooms this size. I would look to see the prints have this room labeled as a closet. I have seen BOs require some spaces like this to be built as bedrooms...changes more than just the electrical requirements.

Call it closet, storage, or what ever, but build a closet inside that closet - it's a bedroom....

On a simular note - I currently have an Arch' calling a 40'x25' area an "Entry" and only calling for 2 outlets in it because HE feels it qualifies as a "Hallway"..... (Even though one could build a small home inside this space....) Either situation, the OP or mine, IMO are up to the AHJ to decide....

I don't believe for a minute that a building official could require this space to be wired as a bedroom, unless it happened to have an egress window. Unlikely in the case of 6' x 15' space but I suppose anything is possible. To answer the OP's question, no receptacle is required for a closet, no matter the size. Some residential plans are quite lacking in information, I have seen some that have no room labels whatsoever on them. In this situation I live by the "if it looks like a closet and smells like a closet, it must be a closet" addage. If it is a large closet, I always offer to put a receptacle or two in for the owners during the initial walk-through of the electrical systems. Cell phone chargers and other rechargable items seem to have a way of finding their way to the closet eventually if there is a receptacle available.

I don't see where one would be required, but if someone has the funds to build a closet like that, they sure-as-shootin' can pony up for a half dozen receps.

If this is a closet, the chandelier is not a permitted type fixture as per 410.16(B)

When I was contracting, I was involved in a residential project where the wife had a 2,000 sqft closet, that was 3 stories in height. It had a computer guided contraption similar to the dry cleaners that would pluck her outfit and accessories that she input in the computer...all based on the type of function she was attending. I believe she had almost as many shoes as Emelda Marcas (or whatever her name was). I was told that she had a $25,000 a month clothing allowance of which she never could contain herself to.

Must be nice!

I thought it was a code violation to install a recep in a closet. It may be that my local codes dont allow it. And ofcourse, all light fixtures have to be sealed so that no bulbs are exposed.

Typically a walk in closet is accessed from inside of a bedroom. A bedroom is accessed from a common area or hallway. IMO a room accessed from a bedroom will never be another bedroom.
