My old boss was stepping off of a scissor lift, jumped from last step and caught his wedding ring on the hook for the safety chain. He would put the ring back on if the finger was still there.

Gold is a great conductor, arch flash is bad. We request all of our maintenance electrician to remove any and all cosmetic hardware, and these days in there face also. But that another topic another time.

At this company, all plant floor employees must remove ALL jewlery. Rings that cannot come off, must be taped to prevent snagging. Watches with plastic (thin and cheap) bands can be worn. No metal frame glasses either.

I never wear a ring to work....much to my wife's dismay ~ she had lots of unpleasent names for me, until I explained that I don't wear our wedding ring for 2 reasons:
1 - A metal ring is a really attention getter for electricity
2 - A ring is just waiting to get snagged on something and the metal is *probably* stronger than flesh, bone and cartiledge(sp?)

She still calls me names, but not because of lack of the wedding ring. :D

Removing Rings

I was a medic in the Army. Rings all the time are getting caught on thinks. I have cut off a few from peeled back skin on fingers. I had one guy so worried about the ring getting damaged that I said its the ring or the finger. The ring was cut. HA.

I just had a maintenance staff member get one arced on a battery terminal. He now has a nice new tattoo.

There should be no jewelry in the work envirnoment. Accidnet just waiting to happen.

or during pregnancy....the Mrs. had to have her engagement ring cut off during one of the pregnancy's (the wedding ring slipped right off??)....she was not a happy camper.

The ring or the finger?
Finger always wins and a ring gets cut ~ and it can always be repaired.

I too have seen peeled finger bones and it's not a pleasant sight. Chemicals get under jewelry too. You shouldn't wear neckties either.

I never wear jewerly and my watch is plastic (I take off all the time).

One of my employees lost his wedding band last week, 3 men spent 2 hours looking for it one day and 2 men spent another 2 hours the next day. So even if it were safe (which it isn't IMO) it still cost me money, and now his wife is not speaking to him (HIS PROBLEM).

My friend was wearing a ring while working on his car with his leatherman. He touched the 12 volts and melted his ring to his finger. He now has a permanent ring, the scar. Never thought 12 volts would do that much damage!

I was climbing out of a stake bed truck when my foot slipped and I fell. I was caught on my wedding ring briefly. Luckily no damage to ring or finger. I stopped wearing my ring to work that day in 1992. My wife got over it!

I saw a guy on my submarine swing down out of the top rack (Bed) on a pipe for a fire drill and his ring got caught on the pipe. When he hit the floor his ring and ring finger were still on the pipe hanger. I have not worn my ring on the job since, my wife understands (So she says)

I mostly work on 48 volt DC and I the ring came off my hand the day I started. It still looks like I have the ring on but I now keep it on my key ring. Wife wants it on my hand but doesn?t want me with 9 fingers.
