I was wondering, we used to always put 2 8' 2000 watt baseboard heaters on a 240v 20a circuit... was this wrong? What is the maximum wattage you can put on a 240v 20a circuit? Is it the 80% rule? 16a x 240v?

thanks guys... I wondered. Its funny what you get taught by arrogant journeyman. I need to take a refresher course on these little things.

I feel the same way. I spent a long time believing what I was told by others, until I found another site. Then I found this one, which is by far the best.

Stick around, ask questions, and don't be afraid to read all the topics.
You will see the light.

Arrogant, or just 'set in his ways'?

this site is awesome! I am never disappointed.... I ALWAYS recommend it! I have gotten many answers to questions that are difficult to find answers to.

Oh, and I mean specifically TWO j-men I learned under--ARROGANT, but I will say MOST are just set in their ways. After all, I am until I find a better answer here :)

I noticed through my helper years that the two 'mechanics' I worked with the most knew the hardware well enough, but varied a great deal in their understanding of electrical theory.

One was an ex-sailor, complete with Popeye-esque forearms, and the other was married to the owner's daughter. The former could do anything he was told, and the latter could do a load calc.

I knew enough to know what to believe and what to question. I did learn a lot. I wouldn't have called either one arrogant, but neither one was ever wrong. If you don't believe me, you can ask them.
