A Parking garage floor would typically be a fire rated assembly, not necessarily the case, though. The drawings should tell you if that is the case. If it is rated, then it needs to be sealed.

Alternatively, I wouldn't trust that the hole would remain dry. A radiator leak, water running down garage, someone washing a car, etc. could feasibly leak down the hole and into the gear. Personally, I wouldn't allow the hole to remain... not my BBQ, though.

t looks like maybe the drain was there first.

I kind of thought the same thing, the way that one conduit is bent over the drain pipe.

Also how old is the installation? That section hasn't always been in the code.

I remeber when we built our new police station and the cells are right over the power room and I told them they were going to have to move all the drains. I didn't feel to sorry for them since I addressed it at plan check.

The real issue here and with other installations similar to this is the engineering.

Where is the [proper] training for the engineers designing this stuff????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I am seeing more and more installations that are "engineered" and not making much sense...in regards to bathrooms being designed in rooms directly over mechanical/service rooms.

Also, the engineers are craming more and more stuff in smaller and smaller rooms.
Have you noticed lately how the ECs are installing vertical in rooms now, not just horizontal - meaning transformers and disconnects hanging over other equipment. The leaves very little room to install the raceways and other assorted electrical stuff. AND there is duct work all over the place.

Well said Pierre........This type of issue is just about on every Inspection I have.......No biggy! Cite it with section # and let the designers figure it out. Hey all remember my post on a "refrigerated trash room" subject to wash down? Yeah well changes have been made per design just had a meeting about that with them 2 months later. They see the point.

We are Pierre, and I don't see any call for it especially in a new building. The usual is a bunch of built in wasted space and yet the power room is dead on for clearances with no breathing room.

Sounds like the electrical engineers did their job in minimizing the cost (area) of their function, and the rest of the engineering disciplines weren't up to snuff.

I've often said that it is the electricians art to get five pounds of s..t in a four pound box. The engineers know this and take advantage of it.:D
