How can I determine whether an underwater pool light (on side wall of pool) is wet niche or dry niche? Is the difference obvious?:-?

Wet niche means it is full of water. 
The only dry niche fixtures I ever inspected were for a pool that was surrounded by a walk-thru tunnel where the fixtures were exposed and made somewhat like stair lighting with the lamps accessible from the tunnel. The were completely sealed from any water entry. The other hundreds or so were wet niche.
