What are Pop boxes actually called?

So this is sort of an auxiliary gutter so that the NM does not have to come through the back of a surface mounted panel enclosure?

It it is an enclosure where the back wall of the house makes one side and the top side is the bottom of the outdoor panel. I swear I could drive around tomorrow and find one they are not uncommon here in TN

And these were in electrical? Not some other dept and sparkles were just using them?

All products I find are proper gutters/troughs.

I knew right off what he was talking about but never saw one or knew something like that exists. I'm with the others, I can't see how it's legal and that's probably why we never heard of it.

These boxes are created to cover wires like this at the bottom of a panel. I agree the code seems sketchy but our AHJ is no pushover on inspections

Huh... Learn something new every day...

That looks like a product made for fixing a mistake that was allowed to happen in the first place; a local problem with a local solution. That NM cable running up the outside of the wall entering a KO on the bottom of an INDOOR panel that was mounted outside, secured with nothing but a clamp would have NEVER passed inspection in any state I have worked in, so the "pop box" solution would not have been needed.

Actually the original image is of an outdoor panel but it's hard to tell zoomed in. I've actually seen these used in new construction. In fact some coworkers of mine used one on a new house they were wiring a month ago. In general I think an outdoor residential panel is a poor idea but that new house has the power on lol

I'm with the rest of the crowd. I've never seen or heard of these before this thread.

It would definitely be a heck of a lot easier than coming into the back of the panel, I'm just not sure what the inspector would think of them though.

Maybe the whole state of TN is a bit sketchy then.

I gotta run before Little Bill and Augie sees that.......:D

Wow I'm surprised at the number of people who have never seen one of these. I honestly thought outdoor panels had all those knockouts in the bottom of them so you could bring all your wires out of the outside wall of your house and into the bottom of the panel and cover them with a pop box if you wanted to. The pop box pictured in my earlier post is the most professional ones made. I've seen others that you can buy that are less than legit looking and I've seen homemade looking ones as well.....lol
