Anyway, those are the cheesy version of the good stuff.
I think the "good stuff" would have been a little more obvious to the OP what it's function was.

These are sort of like "Shark-bite" plumbing fittings, in that they are something that is quick and easy to use in some situations, but otherwise not normally used in normal build process.

They can be used in the normal build though. However you don't see them as a common preference because line men do not like them.
