Bob,
all I am syaing is:

There are SOBs out there that will gamble that no one will challange their refusal by ommission...or for that matter, how does the applicant prove he actually requested the info?
There are so many outs it's a toothless law, policy, act, etc.

Unless you were a total slacker, or a thief, this guy suonds like a MAJOR jerk, have a lawyer call him.

That a past employeer would do anything to hurt a past employees chance of making a living at his choosen profession is SINFUL.

I always stand up to help past employees, and cannot imagine why anyone would not do something as simple as completing form.

While working at the HD when I was in high school I met a guy there that new his stuff, also happened to be working in the seasonal dept? He worked off the books for a guy, left, few years later wanted to get a license employer nowhere to be found, no W-4s. For what is worth I requested the application for the NJ test very early and as I moved from one employer to the next I would have the forms filled out, this really made things eaiser.

Working "off the books" pretty much makes any effort to prove your hours/experience irrelevant - there is no verifiable documentation that you worked or what you even did when you "worked".

I could just as easily say you worked for me for the past 10 years to qualify you to apply for a NJ license...but without some sort of documentation, for all practical purposes, you're SOL. ( Like your friend )

one of my employers refused to sign off on my time 10 years ago, what come around goes around. i ran into him at the continuing ed. classes for the new code cycle. seems he forgot all about jerking me around. turns out he lost his business, and is having trouble finding enough work to stay afloat. he asked me for help, all i could do was laugh, and remind him of the time i needed his help. i gaurantee that was a very uncomfortable 8 hrs for him.

Good for you mgm !

I see the guy that refused to sign-off on me quite often - at the supply house...I walk in and greet all the counter-men by name...he sits there looking at the walls...I am friendly with many of the other ECs as well and always ask them how things are...this guy had the personality of a mop in the 80's and he still does now.
I treat him - and him alone -like he's dead.

Some of the worst employees I have ever had left on good enough terms that I still verified their hours. However at time of employment it is made clear we require notice if they quit. If they leave no notice there are no favors later. I am in Oklahoma and there is not any rules, laws or requirements for empolyers to document hours and I will not do it if they do not exibit common sense when leaving my employment.

DING DING I'm one of those guys suffering from a formal employer would not sign for my time. I tried to get a license in MD for my masters. I supplied them with a letter of my WV state masters license in good standing from the fire marshal. 7 years of w2s plus my 2 year vocational tech degree transcripts. they denied me the option to take that exam. it's been 2 years ago and now I'm looking to relocate to TX and I'm coming into the same problem this licensing is a joke. Contractors tell me if I don't have a j card then they can only pay $15/hr I say go pound sand.... run your own pipe. then they cry the blues why they can't get skilled workers. I wanted to move to TX with the next month but most likely it would take 6 months to get my info together take the exam pass it and get my jcard. what a joke. honestly. way to go guys you got me fired up now. I was under that supervisor for over 4 years. I would love to see him broke down along the side of the road on a cold winter night I would go to sheetz get some soda and a few doggs, then park across the street. I would wave and just watch him :) good luck trying to get your license. when I call the state they tell me they can't rewrite the law for just me. I guess everyone needs a job.
