Re: What color is a 208 hi-leg ?

That's just bizarre. With the correct code references already posted, someone comes along with a second volley of half-truths and jibberish... :D

Re: What color is a 208 hi-leg ?

I thought that common practice called for phase a brown, phase b violet, and phase c yellow for 480/277 volt and that black phase a red phase b blue for phase c on 120/240 volt was accepted that left orange for a high leg. but that there is only five colors mentioned in the code book grey, white, green, green with yellow stripe, and orange

Re: What color is a 208 hi-leg ?

High leg identification requirement was moved to Art 110 in 2002 NEC so applies to all applications, requirement is for orange identification.
However many utilities required red, it used to be called a red leg delta. NEC location is B phase, utilites require C phase, you just roll the conductors.

Re: What color is a 208 hi-leg ?

speaking of color, here is a color test I use in my classes:
What was the function of a gray conductor in the 1999 NEC?
What was the function of a gray conductor in the 2002 NEC?

BTW, along with that answer, perhaps you might have some insight into this one:

Check out my post regarding

"240v recept. phasing".

I could stand to learn a little more on utilization equipment and the principles involved in this scenario.

Read article 200-6 in the "99" book and then read 200.6 and the FPN in the "05" for the answer.

Okay, fine... I will...

But, could you help me in the 240v phasing arena I mentioned earlier Rog? This is my current pickle...
