What do you think about this "new" power saver?

There seems to be a recent proliferation of these. I was contacted by a customer who has 2 by a different supplier, RCSI, installed on a trial basis. Their guarantee says if it doesn't work as advertised, they'll send more of them.

When I pointed out to the company, that utilities usually bill on watts and watt hours, not volt amps and volt amp hours, they said utilities have a conspiracy, unknown to the public, where they are changing out their meters from KWH meters to KVAH meters.

I pointed out that the theory of metering requires the use of pf in making the meter spin. They said I just didn't understand.

My customer is waiting to see if his bill goes down.

If the user pays a PF penalty, caps may pay for themselves, otherwise, there would be only a reduction in energy lost in the wiring. At age 16, I was typing reports for a rate auditing company, and this was one of their recommendations.

the fact that residential customers are only billed in kWHrs doesnt faze some of these people. replies range from 'its a utilities conspiracy' to 'they charge you for it but it doesnt show in the bill'.

and ordinary folks believe the drop in current reading as 'watts' as shown in some infomercials. the electrical practitioners have a lot of work to do

I know of a company in my area that sells a product like the ones mentioned. They do very well with it. I do not have much info on it but it has gone threw testing and it has some sort of pat.& lic.. on it. They claim that it doses work and very well. I know that they did alot of research before they invested into it. They also said that there is alot of knock off out there and to be careful. So; it new and it is our job to pick on the new guy. Like electric floor heat, I have it in my office.
