~Autocorrect is My Worst Enema.~
I just rebuilt the service on my house. 200A service.
I used 3/0 copper on phase and neutral because I had a pile of it in my garage.

Now I have a spec grade, extra heavy duty 200A service :)

Now my 200A is better than your 200A!

no it isn't.... i had 150' of 4/0 copper left in the garage,
and it's been getting nibbled on by services.....

so my copper wire can kick your copper wire's butt. so there.

good thing i scrapped out all the 500 mcm, eh? :happyyes:

I agree and I am willing to back this up with your paycheck also.:D

....And I'll bet Daves paycheck that I'm right..
Listen here! Given the right timing,(my wife and kids being out of town, so I can come home any time I want, and the house and credit card payments made) I am sure I would be in the mood to spend the balance of my check on all of us; but there is no way I am going to let you spend it for me.

Our POCO's here require a 2-1/2" riser for any size service that goes through the roof. Up to 42" without needing to be braced.

BTW, to the OP: 2/0 is fine for your 200A service.

Compare to a truck

Compare to a truck

When explaing load to certain cutomers, I use a truck as an analogy.

Putting 3/0 wire on is like putting 1-ton tires on a half-ton truck. both will work , How much do you want to pay??

another--

electic motor-vs-gas.....

Inrush is .....Start-up for a electric motor is similar to reving a engine to 3600rpm on a fully loaded 3/4 truck in 3rd gear and then dumping the clutch

Another....

overloaded circuit.. 2ton load on a 1/2 truck >>>> it will run for a while then, overheat, then crap-out big time.
