I have never worn steel toes boots, I own a pair and have kept them in the truck, as some places have signs requiring them. Have not had to wear once. Wear these daily.

My kids ask me if they sell men's shoes where I bought these, after years of boots and crushing on foot (not at work) I need something comfortable, these fit that bill.

I have been on some of the largest construction projects in the DC area, and I have been asked to get my hard hat. Never had a shoe request, though I do keep work boots and hiking boots and wading shoes, and chest waders and tennis shoes and flip flops in the truck, Always prepared.

Here, after they got done laughing at you, they would explain you need proper shoes.

I have refused electrical inspectors shoeing up in sneakers.

That is about as hardcore as you can get

If the GC expects me to wear proper boots, and I have to make the workers under me wear proper boots why would the inspector get out of it?

I have also spoken to our own project managers about showing up with dress shoes instead of work shoes, they understood and complied.

The electrical hazard steel toes are actually hard plastic. Cut an old pair of EH rated boots apart and see. As a side benefit, they aren't cold on the tootsies in the winter like steel is.
I bought a pair when I worked at a nuke it made going through the metal detector much easier I always hated having to take off the boots.

LMAO I did the same thing to a complete A** inspector in Houston TX.He would show up in dress shoes. On the first inspection he gave me a lecture on how things work in HIS town.Complete power trip. So the next time he showed up in dress shoes I told him OSHA was on site and He'd have to return with Proper foot protection or he was'nt allowed on the site. This guy returned the next day and seriously looked over my job with a fine tooth comb trying to find a violation. He was red faced when he had to sign me off.My boss at the time gave me a lecture in front of the GC for delaying an inspection by a day. But, in private told me that was the funniest thing he's ever heard of in 36 years in the trade.

I've done the same thing, but to an OSHA inspector.

We had the main switchgear in a school panel open, and pulling a 400a feeder. Crew was all rigged up in arc flash duds.

Along comes OSHA, and they want to inspect the electrical room. "I said No way unless you suit up. Go get your suit."

They returned a week later with an (brand new, unopened) suit, but of course we were done by then.

Why did he not cite you for working hot? Pulling power in a school panel is not work that is permitted to be done when the gear is hot

I don't understand this comment. Where does this rule come from? I was under the impression that as long as you are using the proper PPE your good to go. Am I wrong?
