Re: What does this mean (method of breaker wiring)?

Getting back to this butcher job.Am i correct that both 2 pole 100s are fed with what looks like an old #6 and there is a neutral, see the white that runs from same direction of conductors heading towards the breakers.Damn I cut those wires 3 times and they are still to short  Oh and those green screws just take that out and throw it away it gets in the way when nailing up cut nails to mount this sucker.
Still not sure what the jumped 2 pole is all about.Could be a backfeed for a generator.Quick Margret call the fire dept the flames are almost out.Did I say the F.D. I meant the ins.Adjuster
And with all those spares why double tap a mwbc.Oh I know!Somewhere down the line this butcher double fed the circuit and to cure this one we just will feed 2 circuits off the same breaker. But I charge to much to do a neat safe code comoliant job.

George, that is a real breaker, I just took a picture of it.

I would have been more creative with the numbers had I did it. :D

I love all the responses - I was out-of-town yesterday and could not check this forum.

A little more info - this is from a 2-family home - the left panel was for the 1st floor apartment and the right panel for the 2nd floor apartment.

The home is investor owned and in an area where $10/hr cash labor is common.

1. The neutrals and grounds are combined on both panels, with no sign of a GEC anywhere, so it's presumable neither of these panels are the first means of disconnect for the service.
2. One of these panels is not the first means of disconnect in any event, so the neutrals and grounds should be divided on at least one of them.
3. Pick a brand, any brand: I see Siemens, GE, and what are the mystery all-black breakers? I think I spot a homeline on the panel to the right, but it's a bit too blurry to be sure.

I'm sure if the picture were zoomed out, we'd probably have more to say. :D

Advise to call an electrician. ;)
By the way, the top left breakers in each panel (2 family home) are the main's - 60-amps each.

Re: What does this mean (method of breaker wiring)?

It appears the meter to the left panel has been shut off or removed and a quick fix is to back feed that panel from the one on the right. An easy fix to get power as there no 240 loads in the left panel. I said easy, not legal.

Re: What does this mean (method of breaker wiring)?

Tonytype asked why the circuit breaker would be tied pole-pole and one conductor to something? The topic has gone off on tangents from the photo. This wiring situation is definitely in disarray. It looks all temporary, like maybe after a hurricane or bad storm.
